What is Spravato®?
Spravato® (esketamine) is a prescription nasal spray approved by the FDA, used together with an oral antidepressant, for adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and for depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder with acute suicidal ideation or behavior. It works on the glutamate system, differently from traditional antidepressants, and many patients notice improvement within days or weeks.
Who may be a candidate?
Spravato® may be an option if you:
Have tried at least two antidepressants at an adequate dose and duration without enough improvement.
Have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder by a psychiatrist.
Can attend supervised sessions in our clinic and arrange transportation home (you cannot drive on treatment days).
Our psychiatrist confirms eligibility after a medical and psychiatric evaluation.
How treatment works
Spravato® is only administered in a certified clinic under the REMS safety program:
Sessions: twice a week during the first month, then weekly or every two weeks according to your response.
During each session (about 2 hours): you self-administer the nasal spray under supervision and remain monitored in the clinic until you can safely go home.
Ongoing care: you continue your oral antidepressant and follow-up visits with your psychiatrist.
Insurance and cost
Spravato® is covered by Medicare, Sunshine Health, Simply Healthcare, Aetna, Florida Blue, Cigna and Humana, with prior authorization. Our team verifies your coverage and handles the authorization before you start.
