What is an Intensive Outpatient Program?
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a structured level of care for adults who need more support than weekly therapy but do not require hospitalization. Patients attend group and individual sessions several days a week, about three hours per session, and return home afterwards. Our IOP and Outpatient Program (OP) treat mental health conditions and substance use disorders with an integrated, evidence-based approach, in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole.
Who qualifies for IOP?
IOP may be the right level of care if you:
Need more support than weekly therapy: symptoms of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD or another condition are interfering with daily life.
Are stepping down from a higher level of care: recently discharged from a hospital, crisis stabilization unit or residential program.
Are living with a substance use disorder: want structured treatment while staying at home and keeping your routine.
Are medically stable: do not need 24-hour supervision or medical detox.
Our clinical team confirms eligibility with an initial assessment before you start.
What the program includes
Every patient receives a personalized treatment plan that may include:
Group therapy: skills-based groups (CBT, DBT, relapse prevention, coping and life skills) led by licensed therapists.
Individual therapy: one-on-one sessions with your assigned therapist.
Psychiatric care: evaluation and medication management with our psychiatrist.
Family support: family sessions and education when appropriate.
Case management: help with housing, benefits, referrals and community resources.
Aftercare planning: a step-down plan to our Outpatient Program (OP) and ongoing care.
Schedule: Monday through Friday
