Achieving remission is possible
While there are numerous treatment options for depression, many patients struggle to find significant symptom relief or to cope with medication side effects. BrainsWay Deep TMS is a well-tolerated, highly effective, noninvasive treatment that can bring a profound improvement in mental health. It is FDA-cleared and clinically proven to alleviate symptoms of depression without causing significant adverse or long-lasting side effects.
Who is it for?
Deep TMS with the H1 coil is indicated for adults with major depressive disorder who did not achieve satisfactory improvement with antidepressant medication in the current episode (FDA 510(k) K122288). It is also FDA-cleared for anxious depression.
Medication has not been enough: you have tried one or more antidepressants without sufficient relief.
Side effects are a problem: you cannot tolerate weight gain, fatigue, sexual dysfunction or other medication side effects.
You want a non-drug option: Deep TMS can be used alone or alongside your current medication and therapy.
Treatment course
Short treatment sessions in our office, with minimal disruption to your schedule:
Acute phase: 20 sessions over 4 weeks, 5 per week.
Continuation phase: 2 sessions per week from week 5 to week 12 (10 to 16 sessions), followed by periodic maintenance sessions if needed.
Each session: about 20 minutes. The coil delivers gentle electromagnetic pulses to the areas of the brain involved in mood regulation; they feel like mild tapping on the scalp. You sit comfortably in a chair, awake and alert.
Clinically proven to improve depression symptoms
Including among those who have not seen sufficient improvement with medication or psychotherapy. In addition to numerous published, double-blind, randomized controlled trials, clinical data from over 1,000 patients in real practice settings has shown considerable results:
Nearly 3 in 4 patients who completed 30 sessions achieved a clinical response, a meaningful reduction in depression symptoms.
Nearly 1 in 2 achieved remission, a total absence of depression symptoms and significantly improved mental health (Harvey SA et al., Brain Stimulation, Vol. 13, 2020).
Side effects and safety
Deep TMS has no systemic side effects commonly found with medication, and years of safety data support it. There is no anesthesia and no recovery time: you can drive home and go back to your routine right after each session.
Side effects: some patients initially experience minor headaches or pain at the treatment site, which typically subside after the first few sessions. Our team tailors the treatment to minimize any discomfort.
Safety information: patients should consult with their doctor before undergoing Deep TMS. There is a very rare risk of seizure. Patients with metal in or around the head (plates, implants, stents) should not undergo Deep TMS.
