Deep TMS for OCD

Changing obsessive thinking is possible. BrainsWay Deep TMS with the H7 coil is the first noninvasive brain stimulation treatment FDA-cleared for obsessive-compulsive disorder, for adults who have not seen enough improvement with medication or therapy. 29 sessions over 6 weeks in our Miami office.

Changing obsessive thinking is possible

Treatment options for OCD are limited. Approximately half of patients experience insufficient improvement from medication, and many face debilitating side effects. In addition, nearly 80% of individuals remain symptomatic after psychotherapy. A novel, noninvasive and well-tolerated treatment, BrainsWay Deep TMS is FDA-cleared for OCD and clinically proven to alleviate symptoms without causing systemic or long-lasting side effects.

Who is it for?

Deep TMS with the H7 coil is indicated as an adjunct treatment for adults with obsessive-compulsive disorder (FDA De Novo DEN170078). It is used alongside your current medication or therapy.

Medication is not enough: your OCD symptoms persist despite SSRIs or other medication.

Therapy has not been enough: you have tried exposure and response prevention or other psychotherapy and still struggle.

You want to add a non-drug treatment: Deep TMS complements, and does not replace, your current treatment plan.

Treatment course

Short treatment sessions that integrate into your lifestyle:

Preparation session: a one-time 90-minute visit to design personalized provocations based on your specific symptoms.

Treatment sessions: 29 sessions over 6 weeks (5 per week, 4 in the last week).

Each session: about 30 minutes in two steps: a brief provocation that activates your OCD symptoms with cues designed for you, followed by an 18-minute Deep TMS protocol that stimulates the brain areas involved in OCD thoughts and behaviors. You sit comfortably, awake and alert.

Clinically proven to reduce OCD symptoms

Including among those who have not seen sufficient improvement with medication or psychotherapy:

More than 1 in 3 patients responded to BrainsWay Deep TMS in a pivotal, placebo-controlled multicenter study (Carmi L et al., American Journal of Psychiatry, 2019).

The majority of patients in real clinical settings saw their OCD symptoms decrease by at least 30% (Roth Y et al., Journal of Psychiatric Research, 2020, data from 22 clinical sites).

Side effects and safety

Deep TMS has no systemic side effects commonly found with medication, and years of safety data support it. There is no anesthesia and no recovery time: you can drive home and go back to your routine right after each session.

Side effects: some patients initially experience minor headaches or pain at the treatment site, which typically subside after the first few sessions. Our team tailors the treatment to minimize any discomfort.

Safety information: patients should consult with their doctor before undergoing Deep TMS. There is a very rare risk of seizure. Patients with metal in or around the head (plates, implants, stents) should not undergo Deep TMS.
